Apparently I'm dealing with my feelings about the new eps of Sherlock through 221Bs rather than proper episode reaction write-ups, but I will get into a little bit of what I've thought of 2x01 and 2x02 here. Spoilers for "Hounds of Baskerville" in the ficlet - the scene that begins in the graveyard.

I very rarely write up episode reactions, mostly because I like to have watched the eps a few times, in their larger contexts, before posting anything. But this time, I had lots of thinky thoughts that I haven't seen posted anywhere else.

I don't want to get into a deep commentary about the ep - I like to do that kind of thing after I've seen the ep a few times, in a larger context. But a few small things occurred to me about the opening scene with the boys (if you've seen the director's cuts, then you won't be spoiled by anything I'm saying): ( Dean's encounter )

Man, do I wish that Jensen's Emmy ep was "What Is, and What Should Never Be" rather than "All Hell Breaks Loose." I really, really do. 2x20 was not only a Dean-centric episode; it was built around a concept that simply wouldn't have worked without JA's stellar performance. I've never committed meta in public before. Hmmm. And of course I'd pick not the shattering scene but the funny scene. Spoilers only for "Heart." Anyway, the Paper, Rock, and Scissors from "Heart" is obviously supposed to be a little bit of comic relief, and judging by the ep reactions I read, it worked. Even simply as comic ( Read more... )
